After the hardest-fought election in a generation, the Labour party is now preparing to select its new leader. Join Progress, the Fabians, LabourList, Left Foot Forward and Compass as we ask the candidates to debate their future vision and strategies for the party. The event is taking place in central London and the venue will be confirmed upon registration. We anticipate a high level of demand for this event, so book now to avoid disappointment

We are first opening up tickets to those in the membership organisations who are hosting the hustings - Progress, the Fabians and Compass. Members can apply for tickets, stating which organisation they are a member of. If you're not already a member of Progress you can join here, and if you're not sure whether you're a member please call 020 3008 8180 to check.

The event is ticketed, at a modest member's rate of £5, to manage the venue capacity effectively. We will then make remaining tickets for the event available generally from Friday 4 June 2010

A general election in the UK must be called within a matter of weeks and the campaign is effectively already under way.

Whoever wins that election could play a key role in shaping the future of the EU, influencing issues as fundamental as responding to the economic crisis, reform of the EU budget and CAP and tackling climate change.

Although Europe has been a seismic and polarising issue for the UK political parties in recent years, their EU policies for the next five years have so far been barely mentioned.

Luther Pendragon, in association with Progress and ConservativeHome, is delighted to host a thought provoking event in Brussels where Jessica Asato and Jonathan Isaby, both  well-known and well- informed commentators from the main parties, will discuss, debate and respond to questions from the floor.

The Conservative Party's policy on Europe has been attacked and maligned by members of the Shadow Cabinet and Conservative backbench MPs. If the Conservatives win the next election, Britain's policy on Europe would be hijacked by a cabal of Eurosceptics intent on removing Britain from the EU. Perhaps more dangerous than that is the immediate effect of David Cameron's confused policy: isolation on the world stage, a lack of influence in the EU and a return to institutional navel gazing at a time when Europe needs to create jobs for its citizens. Already in the European Parliament, Cameron has shown he will put dogma first, country second, even at the cost of British businesses and industry. Europe Minister Chris Bryant explores a world view that would see a country divided at home and isolated abroad if we have a Conservative Government.

With less than a year to go before the next general election there is an urgent need for progressive policy debate and discussion in the party to show Labour has the ideas necessary to meet the social, economic and political challenges of the next decade. As part of our new initiative we are asking senior Labour ministers to give a keynote lecture addressing a central issue for Britain’s future and outlining innovative ideas Labour should put forward as part of its route map to a progressive fourth term.
